Kazan's inclusion in the Twin Cities movement began in 1988 with the signing of the Friendship Treaty with the German city of Braunschweig. Today Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, has 74 sister cities and partners in 25 countries of the world. In this section you can get acquainted with the geography of the twin cities and partners and learn more about each city.

In 2019, Kazan joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network of music. The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was created in 2004. Currently the Network consists of 246 cities around the world.
