Special Olympics World Winter Games in Kazan have been postponed to January 2023. This decision was made by Special Olympics headquarters due to the coronavirus pandemic and the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19.
For reference, Special Olympics World Winter Games were originally scheduled to take place in the capital of Tatarstan from January 22 to 28, 2022. The sports program of the games includes competitions in seven sports: alpine skiing, snowboarding, floorball, cross-country skiing, figure skating, short track and snowshoeing.
Special Olympics World Games are held every two years, alternately in the summer and winter periods. Special Olympics annually organizes more than 100,000 events and competitions in more than 30 sports and unites about 6 million athletes and unified partners, as well as more than 1 million coaches and volunteers in 190 countries.
