239 sites for recycling bins for separate waste collection were built in the yards of Kazan during the year

Reverse vending machines are being installed at schools, while some settlements introduce an individual household waste collection.

Separate waste collection is actively implemented in Kazan. Only in 2020, 239 new specialized sites for recycling bins were built in the yards of apartment buildings, made according to modern projects. 161 sites for recycling bins were built under the Our Yard republican program, the rest were built by the property management companies. This was reported to the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin by the heads of the districts.

Timur Alibayev, head of the Aviastroitelny and Novo-Savinovsky districts, reported that in these districts, dual waste collection was organized at 242 out of 327 sites. In total, in 2020, 53 sites for recycling bins for separate waste collection were built in the Aviastroitelny and Novo-Savinovsky districts, of which 39 were built under the Our yard program, and 14 were built by property management companies. Some of the houses equipped with garbage chutes have also abandoned this type of waste collection: now residents take out garbage to new trash enclosures. This year, it is planned to install another 58 sites for recycling bins for separate waste collection.

There are 471 trash enclosures in the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts, and 66 new ones were built in 2020, 39 of them under the Our yard program. Andrey Lobov, head of the district administration, also noted that during the year it was managed to significantly increase the volume of waste removal from the territory of residential areas: from 390 thousand cubic meters in 2019 to 489.2 thousand cubic meters in 2020.

In the Sovetsky district of the city, 89 new sites for recycling bins were installed during the year, of which 38 were built by the property management companies, 51-under the Our Yard program. The head of the district administration, Roman Fatkhutdinov, said that 94% of apartment buildings in the district are now equipped with recycling bins for separate waste collection. Some residential areas have switched to the individual household waste collection: this practice was introduced in the villages of Torfyanoy, Tsaritsynsky Hill and Sultan Ai in 2020.

Sites for recycling bins are also being built in the Kirovsky and Moskovsky districts – 29 sites for recycling bins have been installed as part of the Our Yard program, and 2 more – by funds of maintenance costs. According to the head of the district administration Sergey Mironov, separate waste collection is promoted among the younger generation. In 2020, 5 reverse vending machines for collecting plastic and aluminum were installed at schools, a total of 173,056 plastic bottles and 1,283 aluminum cans were collected.
