Vladimir Putin took part in the opening the M12 Moscow – Kazan motorway

The new highway passes through five regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin took part via video conference in the opening the M12 Vostok motorway between Moscow and Kazan. The highway will unite five regions of the country: Moscow, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod regions, the Republic of Chuvashia and Tatarstan.

“I hope that I will also be able to drive along this motorway one day. I even envy you, because it really feels special, if you drive along such a motorway,”- the head of state commented.

The length of the highway is 810 kilometers, it will take 6.5 hours to get from Moscow to the capital of the republic of Tatarstan – the recommended speed is 110 km/h. The M12 highway construction project was included in the global national project “Europe – Western China”.

There are two or three lanes of traffic in each direction, and oncoming traffic is separated by concrete and metal barriers.
