(KZN.RU, April 3). During «Hour of Earth» 57 megawatts of electric power was saved in Tatarstan and its capital city. Traditionally, the international event was held on March 30 all over the world.
The Ministry of the Ecology and Natural Resources of the RT informs that last Saturday the heads of all authorities, enterprises and organisations, as well as the people of the republic switched off architectural-decorative illumination of buildings, illumination of houses and electric devices. The Kazan City Hall joined the event as well - the building illumination of the Executive Committee and the City Hall was switched off.
We will remind that «Hour of Earth» is the international event, during which the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) calls to switch off light for one hour as a sign of unindifference to the future of the planet. The event symbolizes solidarity of people from different countries in solving problems of energy and resource savings, improvement of ecological situation on the planet. At the present it is the most mass ecological event on the planet. More than 2 bn persons worldwide in 188 countries participate in it, illumination of more than 18 thousand architectural monuments is switched off, inform the organisers.
For the first time in 2009 in Russia more than 30 million people participated in this event.
