In Kazan, a gymnasium No. 18 opens in the Privolzhsky district after the overhaul and construction of a new building

Today, over 167 thousand young Kazan citizens, including 20 thousand first-graders, have begun a school year in the capital of Tatarstan.

Today, gymnasium No.18 “Galam” ("Universe") with the Tatar language of education has opened in the Privolzhsky district of Kazan after the construction of a new school building. On the Day of Knowledge, 670 schoolchildren, including 95 first-graders, went to the school located on Qul Gali Street. The head of the Executive Committee of Kazan Rustem Gafarov and Deputy Chair of the State Council of Tatarstan Marat Akhmetov congratulated students, their parents and teachers on the start of the new school year.

“Today the gymnasium marks its 40th anniversary, it is great that we celebrate this significant event in the new building. Now the educational institution is equipped with modern classrooms, a new hall and a gym, co-working, – said R. Gafarov. – Students of the gymnasium from the first to the ninth grade study in the Tatar language, this allows them to learn deeply the Tatar culture and traditions of the people. Until recently, we could only dream of such educational institutions, but today our dreams become reality”.

The head of the Executive Committee of the city thanked Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov for the renovation program of educational institutions, as well as builders who were able to perform all the work efficiently in a short time.

Marat Akhmetov, Deputy Chair of the State Council of the republic of Tatarstan, reminded that several years ago the leadership of the republic responded to the requests of residents regarding the renovation of the school and the construction of a new building. “Such a team has earned a good facility for high–quality education of children”, - he emphasized.

Alexander Taunov, Director General of the RSS Engineering construction company, presented the keys to the renovated educational institution to the headmaster of gymnasium No.18 Gulshat Faskhutdinova. Gulshat Faskhutdinova extended her thanks to the leadership of the republic and the city. “Now our children will study in a completely new modern school”, - she said.

After the ceremonial school bell, the guests of the holiday visited the new school building, the area of which is more than 10,000 square meters, which allowed admission additional 300 children. The new building will host classes for middle and high school students. On the ground floor of the building, there is a dining room - a school restaurant with more than 200 seats.

The guests looked around the classrooms, which are equipped with modern equipment. The head of the Executive Committee together with the Deputy Chair of the State Council of Tatarstan also inspected the school hall for 350 people, where Rustem Gafarov presented the school with sports balls.

During a tour of the new building, the headmaster showed the guests a recreation area with an atrium. Its design was developed jointly with students and teachers of the school. “Our children will spend free time here, as well as participate in school projects”, - Gulshat Faskhutdinova stressed.

At the end, the guests visited the renovated building of the gymnasium built in 1982. Now the two-storey building with an area of 2,600 square meters has been completely allocated for primary classes with 240 students.

Irek Rizvanov, head of the Department of Education noted that the number of children in the city is increasing every year. “This school year, over 167 thousand young Kazan students went to school, including more than 20 thousand first-graders”, - he said.
