The final ski competitions of this season to take place in Kazan in March

Athletes from Russia and neighboring countries will take part in the competition.

This month, three major skiing competitions will take place in Kazan, the starts are scheduled for March 12, 19 and 20. Albert Salikhov, Chair of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, reported at a press conference at the Tatar-Inform news agency.

Over 500 skiers from Russia will compete for a prize fund of 500 thousand rubles

On March 12, the 55^th Kazan Ski Marathon will take place at the Lokomotiv Stadium. About 600 best skiers from all over the country take part in the event every year.

According to the Chair of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, the registration of athletes will take place at the sports and recreation complex of the stadium on March 11. On March 12, the day of the competition, at 9:00 the start of the 1 km charity race will take place, and in half an hour, at 9:30, the 5 km race will begin. At 10:30, the 25 km and 50 km races will start.

The awarding ceremony of the winners of the competitions is scheduled for 13:00. “The athletes will share the prize fund of 500 thousand rubles, and everyone finishing will be awarded a commemorative medal. More than 450 people have been registered to participate in the competitions”, - A.Salikhov noted.

This year, up to 500 athletes will participate in the competitions. About 40% of participants are from Tatarstan, other athletes are from various cities of the country – Arkhangelsk, Vladivostok, Khanty-Mansiysk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as neighboring countries.

Among the famous athletes, the champion and medalist of the Russian Biathlon and cross-country skiing Championships Alyona Perevozchikova, as well as three-time champion of the 2001 Universiade, participant of three Olympic Games Sergey Novikov will take part in the competition.

On March 19 and 20, the youth ski marathon and the “Top Sprint” Kazan Mayor’s Ski Racing Cup will take place

On March 19, the 47^th Kazan Youth Ski Marathon will take place at the Lokomotiv Stadium. A.Salikhov noted that participation in the competitions is free of charge. Students of sports schools and ski racing departments of sports schools are allowed to participate in the competitions.

The competition will begin at 10:00 and the award ceremony will take place at 13:00. “This year, each marathon finisher will be awarded a commemorative medal for participation in the competition”, - the Chair of the Physical Education and Sports Committee emphasized.

The Kazan Mayor's Ski Racing Cup “Top Sprint” will end the winter season. The competition will take place on March 20 at the Lokomotiv Stadium. The prize fund of the competition is 210 thousand rubles.

This year the tournament will be held for the third time. Three hundred and fifty athletes – 200 men and 150 women - will take part in the competition with a distance of 1600 meters.
