More than 17 thousand people voted for the Russian oak in the contest “European Tree of the Year-2019”

The age of the tree is 248 years.

(KZN.RU, February 14). Kazan citizens can join the voting in the contest “European Tree of the Year-2019”. There are 15 trees with an interesting history from European countries. Russia is represented by an oak tree growing in the Moscow region in the territory of the State Historical, Artistic and Literary Reserve-Museum “Abramtsevo”. According to experts, the tree is 248 years old.

The European competition was preceded by a national qualifying stage: the competition “Russian Tree of the Year-2018”., The main tree of the country, the Abramtsevo Oak, was chosen out of 12 applicants by open voting on the website of the All-Russian program “Trees, Monuments of Wildlife”. Under the shadow of this tree, such prominent cultural figures as Gogol, Turgenev, Repin, Vasnetsov, Levitan, Surikov, and Polenov walked once.

The voting will end on February 28.

Russia is participating in the contest for the second time, reports the press service of the Ministry of Forestry of the RT. Last year, the oak from the Belgorod region took third place out of 13 participating countries.
