The topic “Charity as a tool for the development of the territory” is discussed at the first plenary meeting.
(KZN.RU, November 29, Ksenia Shvetsova). Today, the III All-Russian Forum “Good Kazan. Charity: the experience of the regions” has started in the column hall at the Kazan City Hall. The leaders of non-profit organizations and charitable foundations from all over the country take part in it. For two days, they will discuss ways to develop the activities of non-profit organizations and share experiences. The topic of the first plenary session was “Charity as a tool for the development of the territory”.
Rustem Gafarov, the first deputy head of the Executive Committee, congratulated the leaders and representatives of non-profit organizations and charitable foundations on the start of the two-day All-Russian Forum organized by the Kazan City Hall, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the ANO “Good Kazan”. He recalled that for the third time, Kazan has become the venue for such an important event for the whole country, and noted that interest in the forum is growing every year. If last year, 22 cities participated in the forum, then this year, there are 31 cities. “Thanks to this forum, we are honored to receive more than 300 participants, concerned citizens of our country. Interest in the forum is confirmed by the fact that important, pressing issues are being discussed here. I am confident that you will effectively spend these days and use new knowledge in your cities to improve people's lives”, said R. Gafarov.
He also wished the forum participants successful work. They have a lot to do: for two days plenary sessions, educational events for non-profit organizations and charitable foundations, discussion platforms, and presentations of interesting charity projects will be held within the forum.
“For the first discussion, we decided to propose the development of charity as a tool for the development of the territory. This topic is in the priorities of national development, but when they talk about it, they mainly mean the economic aspects. And it seemed to us important to talk about the human aspect”, explained Elena Topoleva-Soldunova, the chairperson of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the RF on the development of the nonprofit sector and the support of socially oriented non-profit organizations.
Anatoly Fomin, the chairman of the Public Chamber of the RT, noted that today there are about 6 thousand non-profit organizations in Tatarstan whose work will be much more effective if they unite. “We have a tendency in increasing the non-profit organizations, there are many young people, and private organizations are beginning to participate in charity projects. In our opinion, a turning point is taking place in the public consciousness. People understand that business is engaged not only in making a profit. Finally, we saw in our businessmen the people who succeeded in their life, and at the same time they want to give the society what they earned”, said A. Fomin.
He was supported by Maria Chertok, the director of the Russian Fund “CAF”. According to her, the number of citizens interested in charity is steadily increasing. “Our colleagues from the UK have an annual study of people's enthusiasm for charity around the world, and for 9 years Russia has made a big step forward in this rating”, said Maria Chertok. She added that if earlier our country was in 138 place, today it has already risen to 110. When forming this rating, 3 indicators were taken into account: donations to non-profit organizations, volunteer activities, and assistance to strangers.
The fund also regularly conducts research inside the country. According to the last of them, 70% of citizens regularly donate to charitable funds, of which 53% donated last year. “It needs to be remembered, otherwise it seems to us that only some strange people participate in charity. But in fact most people do it, they just don’t talk about it”, concluded M. Chertok.
Immediately after the plenary session, the forum participants will discuss the draft concept of promoting the development of charitable activities and volunteering in the Russian Federation. Artem Shadrin, the director of the Department for Innovative Development of the Ministry of Economic Development, will head the discussion. “As many knows, we have such a concept, it is still valid, but it will soon expire. This year we will need to adopt a new version of the concept. The responsible authority is the Ministry of Economic Development of the RF. Together we will be able to listen to the experts and propose the essential points that should appear in this document”, said Elena Topoleva-Soldunova.
Also today, the program of the forum has a meeting on volunteer fundraising and burnout prevention for non-profit organization workers.
The forum will continue tomorrow. The discussion forum “Why should the government invest in the development of charity?” starts at 11 am. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Sergey Novikov, the head of the Presidential Office for Public Projects, Valery Fadeev, the secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Anna Kuznetsova, the Commissioner for the Rights of the President of the Russian Federation on the rights of the child, and others will take part in it.
