The work for 2018 was summed up and the tasks for the current year were discussed at the meeting.
(KZN.RU, February 27, Alina Berezhnaya). Today, the XVIII meeting of the city Commission for Toponymics took place in the Kazan City Hall. The results for 2018 were summed up and plans for the current year were discussed. The meeting was opened by Lyudmila Andreeva, the chairperson of the commission, the deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, who thanked the participants for their active involvement in the work of the Commission during the year.
Those present reviewed the report on the activities of the Commission for Toponymics for 2018, which was detailed by Sania Sabitova, the secretary of the Commission. According to a report last year, the Commission for Toponymics received more than 60 complaints. One of the main topics was the perpetuation of prominent personalities and individuals memory who heroically died while fulfilling their duty. The second most popular topic of appeals was the renaming of already existing territories. There are also requests for the name of the newly formed streets. Residents of the new streets make their proposals, offering creative names. In addition, the Commission receives requests for the provision of information certificates on the origin of the names of certain streets.
S. Sabitova said that last year, streets appeared in the new micro-districts of the Sovetsky and Privolzhsky districts of Kazan. They were named after eminent personalities whose names are associated with Tatarstan. Thus, one of the streets in the Sovetsky district is named after Alexander Koval, a Hero of the Soviet Union. One of the streets of the residential complex “Art City” is named after intelligence officer Iskhak Akhmerov. The RC “Green” now has a street of Ismagil Gainutdinov, an Honored Art Worker and an architect. The RC “Yuzhnaya Polyzna” of the Privolzhsky district has the streets named after Viktor Yerin, a Hero of Russia.
The secretary of the Commission noted that in 2018, a military rank, status, and profession was added to the name when naming streets in honor of prominent personalities.
The work on assigning the names of prominent personalities to the streets in new residential complexes will continue this year. “The city is growing. There are new territories and micro-districts, where streets need to be named”, explained S. Sabitova.
This year, it is necessary to give the names of the streets in the new territories that are being developed. They are in the residential quarter “Novye Gorki”, RC “Yuzhnaya Polyana”, “Stantsiya Sportivnaya” (or “Yubileinaya”), “University campus of the KFU”, and also the territory of the Aviastroitelny district, where housing for large families will be built.
Speaking about future plans, the secretary of the Commission for Toponymics said that this year, the work on perpetuating the personalities whose names are associated with the city will continue in Kazan in honor of the celebration of the TASSR 100th anniversary and the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Lyudmila Andreeva advised members of the Commission to turn to the Book of Memory in order to study the names of the Heroes of the Soviet Union and the participants of the Great Patriotic War, who are worthy of perpetuation on the territory of Kazan.
