The parties discussed issues of cooperation and the holding of the UCLG World Congress.

(KZN.RU, July 2, Alina Berezhnaya). Lyudmila Andreeva, the deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, met with the delegation of South Korean in the City Hall today. The parties discussed possible aspects of cooperation, as well as the holding of the World Congress of the organization “United Cities and Local Governments” (UCLG). It will be held from 11 to 15 of November 2019, in Durban (South Africa).

Rasikh Sagitov, the Secretary General of the Eurasian Regional Department of the UCLG World Organization, Diana Abdulkhakova, the deputy director of the Tourism Promotion Committee, and Saniya Sabitova, the chief specialist of the Toponymic and Inter-Municipal Cooperation Department of the Regulatory Department of the Kazan City Duma Office, also attended the meeting and the Korean side was represented by Park Yoon-Sung, the Vice Mayor of Daejeon, and others.

Welcoming the guests, Lyudmila Andreeva noted that Kazan and South Korea have friendly relations. In particular, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the city of Daejeon and the capital of the RT in 2017. “We especially value our relations with South Korea in the field of education. In this direction, the Kazan Federal University has been doing a lot of work, where Korean has been taught for many years”, said Lyudmila Andreeva.

Park Yoon-Sung, the Vice Mayor of the Daejeon, noted that Kazan pays a lot of attention to the development of education, as well as Korea. “Perhaps technological, educational and scientific issues will be the basis for further cooperation”, said Park-Yoon-Sung.

The participants also raised issues of cooperation between Kazan and South Korea at the UCLG World Congress in South Africa. Park Yoon-Sung announced that Daejeon plans to nominate its candidacy for holding the UCLG World Congress in 2022. “A large number of international events are taking place in our city, including those organized by the Asia-Pacific branch of UCLG. We are confident that our experience will allow us to hold a high-level congress”, said Park Yoon-Sung.

Lyudmila Andreeva supported the initiative of the guests and wished them good luck. She also added that the main organization for building friendly relations is the World Organization UCLG, which this year marks 15 years.

The meeting ended with the exchange of gifts. Then the delegation of South Korea went to see the sights of Kazan and get acquainted with the Tatar national cuisine.
