The meeting at the Kazan City Hall with the delegation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan

Guests from Uzbekistan expressed interest in sharing experience in several areas and sectors of the urban economy.

(KZN.RU, September 26). Today the members of the delegation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the representatives of the Kazan Executive Committee discussed possible spheres of cooperation at the meeting in the City Hall. Evgeniya Lodvigova, the first deputy head of Kazan, chaired the meeting. Guests fr om Uzbekistan expressed interest in sharing experiences in several areas and sectors of the urban economy.

At present, Kazan's cooperation with the Republic of Uzbekistan is mainly carried out within the framework of the Treaty on Friendship and Partnership Relations, signed in 1998 between the capital of Tatarstan and Tashkent.

The delegation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan arrived in Kazan yesterday. On the night before, members of the delegation met with Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, in the Kazan Kremlin. Within the framework of the visit to the capital of Tatarstan the guests got acquainted with the work of the Kazan IT park, the technopolis “Khimgrad”, the agro-industrial park “Kazan”, and visited a number of other sites.

Opening the meeting at the Kazan City Hall, Evgenia Lodvigova thanked the guests for their visit to the capital of Tatarstan.

Artur Valiakhmetov, the chairman of the Committee for Economic Development of Kazan, told about the main socio-economic indicators of the city. In particular, he said that the gross territorial product of the city in 2017 amounted to 688 billion rubles; it is an increase of 106% compared to the previous year. He marked that the city has a favorable investment climate. Investments attracted the city's economy last year amounted to 184.4 billion rubles. He also noted that 190000 people, or every third employee of Kazan, work at small and medium-sized enterprises.

Bakhytzhan Khabibullaev, the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, thanked for the warm welcome that the President of Tatarstan had given them. According to him, this visit was the result of active cooperation between the Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan. He said that the Republic of Karakalpakstan with a population of 1.8 million people is located in the north-west of Uzbekistan and occupies about one-third of the country's territory. The republic is rich in minerals and natural gas reserves.

Mekhreddin Khairiddinov, the Consul General of Uzbekistan in Russia, spoke about plans to open the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan in the near future. Now there is a choice of the premises wh ere it will be located. Mekhreddin Khairiddinov noted the prospects of cooperation with Kazan and Tatarstan in general. The republics have much in common in terms of religion, culture, particularities of life, etc.

After that, the meeting participants discussed the possibility of interaction and exchange of experience, in particular, in the sphere of housing and communal services, economy, culture, and others. Thus, the guests were reminded that the Days of Uzbek Culture will be held in Tatarstan one of these days, and in October the dance ensemble “Kazan” will go on tour to Uzbekistan.

At the end of the meeting, Evgeniya Lodvigova, the first deputy head of Kazan, marked that there were many points of contact on both sides and suggested to continue joint work.

Dmitry Anisimov, the chairman of the Committee on Housing and Communal Services, Daria Sannikova, the director of the Committee for Tourism Promotion, Ekaterina Akhmetshina, the deputy head of the Department of Culture, German Lerner, the deputy minister of Industry and Trade of the RT, Parakhat Toreshov, the khakim of the city of Nukus, and others also attended the meeting.
