More than 1.4 thousand amateurs and professional athletes will compete in three races in Kazan in March.
In March, Kazan will host three cross-country skiing races, which will be attended by more than 1.4 thousand professional athletes and winter sports enthusiasts. The Kazan Ski Marathon, which will be held on March 13 at the Lokomotiv stadium, will give a start to a series of sports events. Albert Salikhov, Chair of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, shared a detailed information about the competition at a press conference in the Tatar-Inform News Agency.
The Kazan Ski Marathon, which will be held in the capital of Tatarstan for the 54th time, will become one of the largest sports events after the Russian Ski Race. Presently, the marathon is under active preparations. Despite the warm weather, the organizers assure that the skiing track for the participants of the race will be prepared at the highest level.
For participants of the Kazan Marathon, according to their age and level of training, three distances will be available – 5 km, 25 km and 50 km. It is expected that about 500 people will take part in the competition.
The novelty of the competition this year will be a charity race at a distance of 1000 m. The participation fee will be 1,000 rubles, all proceeds will be donated to charity.
This year, fans will be able to join the marathon online-the competition will be broadcast live on YouTube channel of the Kazan Mayor’s Office.
On March 14, the annual Kazan Youth Ski Marathon will be held at the Lokomotiv Stadium for the 46th time. Participants, depending on the age group, will compete at one of four distances: 5 km, 10 km, 20 km and 30 km. About 600 people will take part in the competition. Athletes with third youth category and higher will be admitted to the marathon, said Dmitry Kochkin, head of the Department for sporting events of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports.
The series of sports events will end on March 20 – on this day the capital city of Tatarstan will host Top Sprint competitions for the Cup of the Mayor of Kazan in cross-country skiing at a distance of 1800 m. More than 350 participants from the age of 17 will compete in the race.
