An open-air library with stories from the life of L. Tolstoy will open in the Kazan Kremlin

Interesting facts about the biography of the writer, the Kazan cultural and scientific life will be presented in 34 volumes.

(KZN.RU, August 29). A large-scale exhibition project “Believe Yourself!” dedicated to the 190th birth anniversary of Leo Tolstoy opens in Kazan on the territory of the reserve-museum “Kazan Kremlin”.

The exhibition “Believe Yourself!” is an unusual multimedia exposition or, rather, an open-air library consisting of 34 volumes. Each volume is a separate fascinating story from the life of Leo Tolstoy in Kazan, which includes interesting facts about his biography, Kazan environment, Kazan cultural and scientific life. Separate volumes tell about what will make Tolstoy alive: how the appearance of the writer changed during the life, what number 28 meant in his life, etc. The exhibition is aimed at a wide audience: citizens, visitors of the city and the reserve-museum “Kazan Kremlin”. There are young people among them who may be especially interested in the search of young Tolstoy.

The dialogue between the L. Tolstoy era and the modern reader has been achieved thanks to the latest Internet technologies. At the exhibition, there are the unique photo, audio and video materials in the open access that characterize the main stages of his formation, as well as the appearance on the territory of the Kazan province of one of the most famous noble families of the Russian state, the Tolstoy family. A feature of the exhibition project is its availability not only for residents and visitors of Kazan, but also for all users, thanks to the mobile application izi.TRAVEL.

Kazan for Leo Tolstoy is a city he was bonded by kindred and friendly ties. The adolescence and youth of the brilliant writer passed here, he first thought about choosing his path, the purpose of his life. During the student years within the walls of the Kazan Imperial University, he develops a system of his original views on education, the meaning of which the future classic saw in the formation of young people's ability to think. Trying to learn how to plan his time, Leo Tolstoy being a student gets a “Journal of daily studies”, makes “Rules of Life”, and begins to keep a diary. Impressions of the Kazan period of life were reflected in the works “After the Ball”, “The Morning of the Landlord”, the trilogy “Childhood. Adolescence. Youth”.

The exhibition “Believe yourself!” will open on September 3 at 3 pm. The admission is free, reports the exhibition center “Manege”.
