The first stage of ecological rehabilitation of the Marino Lake is completed in Kazan

A pond frog, a carp, an amur sleeper, various insects and a multitude of microorganisms inhabit the lake.

(KZN.RU, December 26). The first stage of the environmental rehabilitation of the Marino Lake is completed in Kazan. It is conducted by one of the urban construction companies together with environmentalists of the KFU.

The department of environmental management and water use under the guidance of Nafisa Mingazova, an environmental scientist, prepared a detailed analysis of the state of the lake. It included water quality, the composition of bottom sediments, and diversity of microorganisms, plants and animals. A laboratory hydro-chemical analysis showed that the water quality in the lake belongs to class III. The water is considered moderately polluted, which is natural for a small reservoir in the center of a densely populated urban micro-district. Several main layers were identified during bottom drilling. Ecologists are alarmed by the fact that they have not discovered a groundwater reservoir. This means that the lake is fed by precipitation, and not by groundwater. The reason for this was the partial filling of the reservoir in 2004-2008. Then a large amount of unloaded sand closed the underwater sources. To remedy this situation, it is necessary to deepen the bottom and remove excess sludge deposits that reach several meters in some places.

Today, the lake is inhabited by a pond frog, a carp, an amur sleeper, a dozen species of insects, and a lot of microorganisms. The muskrats live there and a number of uncommon birds.

The department of environmental management and water use of the KFU has been studying the wetland complex of Pobedy Park for many years. The Marino Lake is included in it despite the fact that it is cut off from the main territory of the park. According to scientists, the lake appeared on the site of the former Kizicheskogo swamp, which is hundreds or thousands of years. The documented history of the reservoir has been going on since the 1970s when active construction began in this area.

In 2012-2013, ecologists have developed a lake rehabilitation project. After its implementation, the reservoir received the status of the first Kazan eco-park, reports the developer’s press service.
