A famous stand-up comedian Pavel Dedishchev will be reading the text of the Total Dictation in Kazan

Participants of the event will be able to test their knowledge at 200 locations

Registration is still open for the All-Russian Total Dictation event, which will be held on April 5. Participants from Kazan will be able to take the test at 200 different locations, including museums, libraries, universities, and recreational centers. One of the announcers will be a stand-up comedian Pavel Dedishchev. This was reported at a press conference at the Tatar-Inform news agency.

Total Dictation is an annual educational where everyone has an opportunity to write a dictation voluntarily and check their literacy level. The dictation takes place at the same time all over the world.

In Kazan, the All-Russian event will be held at over 200 locations, the main venues will include the Pushkin Recreational Center, the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication.

Registration is available on the official website at totaldict.ru. Registration is currently open from March 26 until the start of the dictation on April 5.

This year, four new dictation texts have been written by Marina Moskvina, a writer, screenwriter. Marina has also won the Andersen International Honorary Diploma and is a TV presenter and journalist. The texts will remain secret until the campaign begins, but it has been revealed that they will focus on the topic of travel.

Special simplified texts and testing materials in Russian for international students were prepared by the project organizers. These materials will be used for the TRuD test, which will be held at six different locations. Foreigners living in Kazan can take the test at Kazan State Medical University. «Last year, 606 international students took the TRuD test Total Dictation in the Republic of Tatarstan. It shows that the Russian language unites us», – said Sergey Chumanov, the regional coordinator of the Total Dictation.

The dictation will be checked by a team of leading experts in philology, including teachers of the Russian language and literature. The best students will be awarded at the end of May at a special ceremony.

In 2024, 8% of all participants received highest points in dictation, while in 2023 the number was at 7.3%. Common mistakes include misspelling of adverbs and incorrect punctuation.

The Total Dictation in Kazan is supported by the Tatarstan Ministry of Education.
