More than 1300 young athletes from 65 cities of Russia take part in the tournament.
(KZN.RU, March 21, Ksenia Shvetsova). Today the All-Russian competition in the track and field athletics “Shipovka Yunykh” has started at the Central Stadium of Kazan. Teams of urban educational institutions, boarding schools, orphanages, and sports schools take part in them. The total number of athletes in the six days of competition this year will be more than 1300 people who came from 65 cities and settlements of Russia.
The competition program includes a sprint race of 60 meters, long jump or high jump at the choice of athletes and endurance running. The tournament will be held between young athletes of three age groups: 2008–2009, 2006–2007, and 2004–2005. The main judge was Irina Vostrikova, an Honored Master of Sports in Athletics.
On the first day, the competitions were held between athletes of 10-11 years old. They ran a distance of 60 m, and also jumped in the length or height of their choice.
The opening ceremony of the competition began with a parade of the youngest participants in the tournament. Welcoming the young athletes, Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairperson of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, reminded that the “Shipovka Yunykh” was held at the Kazan Central Stadium for the 12th time. “During this time, many famous athletes have grown who have competed the same way as you. For example, Daniel Lysenko, who became a world champion in the high jump last year”, said S. Vostrikova. “You are the strongest athletes of the country. Therefore the fight will be very interesting. I wish everyone to show personal records, have time to make friends with their rivals and do not forget to see our beautiful city”.
Khafiz Salikhov, the chairman of the Federation of Athletics of the RT, congratulated children on the beginning of the tournament. “Remember the main Olympic principle: there are no losers!” he said to the track and field athletes.
“Let these competitions be the beginning of a long sports life for you! I wish you all to show what you are capable of, always striving to improve and grow not only as good athletes, but also as decent people”, said Konstantin Trubochkin, the first vice-president of the All-Russian Athletics Club.
After greeting the participants of the tournament, a ceremonial presentation of the categories of candidates for the master of sports was held, in which Khafiz Salikhov took part. The athletes in track and field athletics Fazyl Khusaenov, Alexander Burdin, and Dina Daminova received the degrees. The ceremony continued with the solemn presentation of the certificates “Sports Judge of the All-Russian Category”.
The most creative athletes were mentioned at the opening of the competition: the winners of the drawing contest. The drawing competition, devoted to the 74th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War on the theme “Remember, honor and be proud” was held among the participants in the tournament age category 2008–2009. 70 works were submitted from 11 cities of Russia. The winners of the competition were awarded.
Olga Voronova, the executive secretary of the Executive Committee of the Kazan local branch of the United Russia party, addressed the children with the words of congratulations. “Today you have the beginning of sports competitions. But you also participated in a good creative contest, which was held on the eve of the most important holiday of the country – the Victory Day. You honored your work and paid tribute to those heroes that gave as life”, said O. Voronova, She wished the children victories in the tournament, presented the authors of the six best works with memorable gifts.
“I participate in competitions for the second time. Last year I already came to Kazan. I will run a 60-meter distance, a baton and jump in length”, said Denis Utkin, one of the young athletes, who came to the tournament from Arkhangelsk. “We have not had time to take a walk around Kazan. We have just arrived yesterday right to the training session, then to sleep and now today at the stadium. But I would love to make time for a walk. There are 4 boys and 4 girls from our sports school”.
11-year-old Vildan Kamaev from Bashkortostan still has to fight for the victory, he came to the tournament with Anvar Ageev, an honored coach of Russia. “Children are happy to participate in such competitions. I brought them from the village school, this is a great event for them. Then they come home, tell their classmates about it, and many of them will also start to play sports”, said Anvar Ageev. “But the most important thing is the education of the will, the disciplines that are needed for participation. It is not just about victory at any cost, we, first of all, want to grow up healthy, strong people”.
On March 22, participants of the tournament will discus throw and run for 500 and 600 meters. On March 24 and 25, the same stages of the competition will be held by participants 12-13 years old, and on March 27 and 28, older athletes (14-15 years old) will fight for the right to become the strongest.
The first competition “Shipovka Yunykh” was held immediately after the Moscow Olympics in 1981. Young twelve-year-old Moscow schoolgirl Irina Privalova was one of the very first participants, now she is an Olympic champion, and many times world record holder in Europe and Russia.
