Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, called for more active involvement of virologists and epidemiologists on informing the population with reliable information about the situation today at a meeting of the headquarters for combating the spread of coronavirus infection. Vladimir Zhavoronkov, deputy Minister of health of Tatarstan, informed on the disease rate and the operation of medical facilities.
“Today, every patient, having ARVI or pneumonia, is considered a potential COVID-19 patient. In this regard, two precautionary hospitals have been established – the Hospital for infectious diseases and the Republican Clinical Hospital, - the speaker reported. – On the basis of these hospitals, patients are being examined, including laboratory tests for coronavirus. Based on the complex of clinical laboratory tests and the severity of the illness, a decision is made on the further routing of the patient”.
At the moment, Kazan has deployed a sufficient number of beds for the combating coronavirus infection, the total capacity is 1155 beds, V. Zhavoronkov said. “This is bed capacity for the treatment of all pneumonia and ARVI cases, not just coronavirus, - he explained. - If necessary, additional capacity will be deployed at the city's facilities and nearby districts of the Republic with a total capacity of 2,051 beds for the Central district”.
The Mayor of Kazan called for strengthening the work on informing the citizens with reliable information about the coronavirus situation. “We need to be guided by the opinions of our specialists – virologists, epidemiologists, who would give us recommendations not only regarding the work of medical institutions, but also the treatment of diseases, - he said - panic moods spread faster than the opinions of professionals on the Internet, we need to work on this”.
Presently, there are 73 confirmed cases in Tatarstan, 17 has recovered. 24 thousand tests on coronavirus were conducted, including about 12 thousand tests in the republican laboratories.
In Kazan, as of April 12, 955 citizens are under medical supervision, who had contacts with laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19. Medical monitoring of 6 550 people has been terminated. A total of 7,505 people have been monitored since the outbreak.
