The construction of a shop for thermomechanical treatment of sludge sediment started in Kazan

The Mayor of Kazan visited the construction site of the workshop.

(KZN.RU, May 16, Ksenia Shvetsova). The construction of a shop for the thermomechanical treatment of sludge started in Kazan on the territory of biological sewage treatment plants (BSTP). Technology and equipment of this type are used in Russia for the first time. The construction of the workshop is one of the components of a large project for recycling in the city. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, said this during a press tour for media journalists to the sewage treatment plant of the MUP “Vodokanal”. The cost of the project is estimated at almost 1.5 billion rubles. The head of the city expressed the hope that in the future, Kazan will be able to achieve zero burial of both sewage and solid household waste.

The work on the implementation of the largest project of the MUP “Vodokanal” started in January. It is planned to complete them at the end of the year. The total area of the facility will be 1.5 thousand square meters. New facilities at BSTP will allow daily processing of 340 tons of sludge with a moisture content of 96%, making up to 100 tons of granulated matter after thermal disposal. This substance can be used in different areas of the urban economy and industry. The project developer is the OAO “Institute “Rostovsky Vodokanalproekt”, the contractor is the PAO “Tomskgazstroi”.

“Now we have installed a water-lowering system and in the coming days we will start constructing buildings for equipment”, said Andrey Egorov, the director of the MUP “Vodokanal”. “The first batch of equipment should come in June-July, the last in October, then start-up work will begin”.

Today, builders have already completed the preparatory work (site fencing, access roads, temporary power supply) and began to dig a pit for the construction of production and domestic buildings. At the same time, the construction of routes for engineering communications is being conducted.

Technology and equipment of this type are used for the first time not only in the republic, but also in the whole country, added the director of the “Vodokanal”. The cost of the project is estimated at almost 1.5 billion rubles. 750.1 million rubles will be spent on construction and installation work, another 749.5 million on technological equipment. All the equipment that will be installed at the plant is Russian-made.

Kazan will become the first Russian million-population city to solve the problem of processing sludge, noted the Mayor. Along with the introduction of separate garbage collection and reduction of landfills for the disposal of solid waste, it will become one of the most important development areas of the capital of Tatarstan, he added. Separate garbage collection allows reducing waste disposal to landfills and processing sediment to solve the problem of sludge fields. Only in the Aviastroitelny district, it was possible to reduce the amount of waste removed by 35%. “We have 110 hectares of sediment with a height of 4-5 m accumulated on the banks of the Volga for 50 years, creating an environmental threat”, said I. Metshin. “The construction of this workshop is part of a large project on waste management culture. When we say that we are going to be the first in Russia to become the environmentally friendly million-population city where large industrial enterprises are located, we ideally want to achieve zero burial of both sewage and solid household waste”.

Such city and republican projects as “Green Record” and “Blooming Kazan” help to solve the task of becoming an environmentally friendly city. However, it is impossible to solve it without the participation of citizens, marked the Mayor. “It won’t work without explaining to the population, without the culture of every person, in every house, in every yard. No money, janitors, projects would be enough. Together we must do everything so that Kazan would be a powerful industrial, tourist, industrial city, but environmentally friendly at the same time”.

The separate garbage collection, which started last year in the Aviastroitelny district, is now being implemented in all districts of the city. 47% of the housing stock was transferred to separate garbage collection.
