The first sports complex for people with disabilities has opened in Kazan

Every day, up to 500 people, including Paralympians, will be able to train here.

In Kazan, the first specialized sports complex for children and adults with disabilities has opened on the territory of the Yardem Mosque on Serov Street. Every day, five-hundred people, including Paralympians in 15 sports, will be able to train in a two-storey building with an area of 1,200 sq.m. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, as well as representatives of the city and republican media got acquainted with the sports venue at a press tour.

“Many projects are being implemented in Kazan under the Accessible Environment program. One of them is a modern sports and recreation complex for people with disabilities. All conditions have been created here for sports – it has special and highly qualified trainers”, - the head of the city noted.

On the ground floor of the venue there is a multifunctional sports hall, where participant sports can be held, and a training hall for wheelchair users. As imam-khatib of the Yardem Mosque Ildar Hazrat Bayazitov told the head of the city and journalists, the covering in the multifunctional hall was selected taking into account Paralympic standards, and the functionality allows for training in many sports, such as floorball (wheelchair hockey), boccia, football, mini-football, volleyball and basketball.

In the sports complex, the Paralympians of the Tatarstan and Russian national teams are already conducting their first training. For example, today the participants of the Paralympic national basketball team were preparing for competitions here.

“Now we are at the very beginning of the journey. In autumn, we plan to open a Good Kazan coworking in the Sovetsky district, several cars will be purchased that will help wheelchair users get to it, - Ilsur Metshin shared his plans. -There are also plans to renovate school No.78 on Fuchika Street and create a second sports complex for people with disabilities there. Residents of Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts will have the opportunity to play sports closer to home”.

Denis Shabanov, Director General of the sports complex, said that about 40 people can train at the same time in the venue. For example, cyclists and triathletes trained in the same hall with the Paralympians today.

On the second floor of the sports complex there are halls for workouts and cardio training, a massage room and a room with equipment for electrical muscle stimulation. “All simulators are modern and adapted for people with disabilities. For example, the dumbbells are rubberized, and the equipment for strength training is without weight plates for the safety of visitors. The equipment can be controlled using the built–in system, and the trainer will monitor the process”, - said Ildar Hazrat Bayazitov.

“This a unique complex in Kazan that takes into account all needs for people with disabilities. Undoubtedly, it will be in demand by residents not only of the city, but also of the entire republic and the country”, - said Ildar Hazrat Bayazitov and thanked Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin for their support in the construction of the sports facility.

Various competitions will be held in the sports complex. For example, the All–Russian soundball competitions -table tennis for the blind and visually impaired, in which participants need to hit the ball.

“We want Kazan to be not only a beautiful, well-maintained and safe city. It is important for us that all residents, including people with disabilities, can work, relax, move around the city and play sports without problems”, - I.Metshin noted.
