Preparatory work on improvement the territory of Bolshoye Chaikovoye Lake

The park will have piers, lighted paths, benches for relaxation and a coffee shop

Preparatory work has begun in Kazan to improve the city park next to Bolshoye Chaikovoye Lake on Chuikova Street. This year, it is planned to imrove an area of 2.1 hectares along the perinatal center of the city hospital-7. Currently, workers are engaged in clearing the territory.

“This will be a new step in the transformation of the Chaikovye Lakes. There are not many green areas in the Novo-Savinovsky city district, and we strive to improve every park or square. And this natural object is very important: one of the largest colonies of the lake gull in Tatarstan is located on the territory of the Chaikovye Lakes in Kazan. Our task is to create conditions for the recreation of citizens, to protect this natural oasis, to preserve the conditions for nesting birds. The city has already accumulated great experience in the development of eco-parks, and it is being used in the improvement of Bolshoye Chaikovoye Lake. In particular, it was decided to start the main work in July, when the seagull nesting period ends,”- said Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan.

For reference, the number of nests in this relatively small area can reach 75, which is not common for a large city. In addition to seagulls, mallards and terns live on the lake, and during the autumn and spring migration of birds, the list of species is further expanded.

“This year, due to weather conditions, the nesting period of seagulls began a little earlier than usual. However, until the end of the brood period birds should not be disturbed. It is good that most of the construction work, especially related to noise pollution, has been moved beyond the nesting period. All landscaping work should continue to be carried out as carefully as possible so as not to damage the fragile ecosystem of the reservoir and its coastal zone,”- Dmitry Ivanov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use, noted.

The clearing area within the first stage of work will amount to 5,500 square meters. Paving stones will be laid on the walking paths, and wooden flooring will be installed on the observation decks.

Two viewing platforms will be equipped: not far from the pavilion and opposite the car center.

A coffee shop and a toilet with a total area of 108 square meters will be installed between the Bolshoye and Maloye Chaikovoye Lakes.

Additionally, new willow trees will be planted, as well as alder, rowan, cherry, decorative apple tree, viburnum, spirea, aronia, birch bark, as well as flower beds and cereal plants will appear on the territory.

Various small architectural forms will also be installed in the landscaped area: benches, a table, urns, information stands on fences, a covered solid waste site.

Landscaping will continue in 2025. It is planned to create a comfortable pedestrian zone in front of the Lenta mall with access to Adoratskogo st., reorganize the existing shopping area along Akademika Lavrentieva st., lay a pedestrian zone from Akademika Lavrentieva Street to Chuikova Street between Bolshoye and Maloye Chaikovoye Lakes. The citizens voted for the improvement of Bolshoye Chaikovoye Lake – the site became the leader in the voting.
