Activists of the “Tom Sawyer Fest” updated the crown and the frames of the house №12 on Kalinin Street шn Kazan

After completion of the work on the site, volunteers will start restoring the Berkutov’s House.

(KZN.RU, July 11). Kazan activists of the “Tom Sawyer Fest” continue to restore the house №12 on Kalinin Street. To date, most of the work has already been completed. The other day, volunteers restored the wooden crown of the house and made carved frames.

The house №12 on Kalinin Street is a sample of wooden architecture of the XIX-XX centuries. Supposedly, it was built before 1905. For more than 100 years of existence, decay has appeared on the wooden crown of an old house. Volunteers treated it with a special protective composition, covered it with a brick and plastered. Also, the activists made carved wooden frames on the windows. According to the volume of the cut and usual carving, the house became the most ambitious project of this year, reports the press service of the festival.

The house №12 at Kalinin Street was the first object volunteers began to restore this year. In June, they strengthened the foundation of the house.

At the moment, they are completing minor works at the site, including painting. After they are finished, the house will be prepared for sewage and water supply. Approximately at the end of the summer, residents of the house will already live with comfort. This year, the object will be connected to the city networks in the framework of the All-Russian festival for the first time.

The next object, which volunteers plan to start restoring, is Berkutov’s House at Fatykh Karim Street, №1. This summer, activists are planning to upgrade 3 houses in the historic center of the city.

The “Tom Sawyer Fest” is a festival in which activists and volunteers repair valuable urban buildings that are not cultural monuments. This movement in defense of the historical environment attracted many cities in Russia. The festival started in Kazan in 2016. Then the activists repaired 3 wooden houses in the city center; 125 volunteers took part in the work. In 2017, the number of participants exceeded 150 people, 4 houses were renovated, and another 5 houses in 2018. In total, the concerned citizens in the Kazan “Tom Sawyer Fest” updated 12 houses in the center of Kazan.
