The participants discussed the implementation of projects on the terms of the public-private partnership.

The topic of public-private partnership and the implementation of projects were discussed today in the Kazan Executive Committee at the meeting with the delegation of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The guests got acquainted with the main socio-economic indicators of the city and asked questions about the city authorities’ interaction with the business.
Jeffrey Hamilton, the head of the cooperation and partnership section of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Department of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, told about the purpose of the visit. He said that the visit was organized on the initiative of Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT. “Several months ago, the President of the RT visited the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva. During the visit, he suggested that our leadership send a group of experts to the Republic who could assess the readiness of Tatarstan to work with a more active involvement of public-private partnerships”, said Jeffrey Hamilton. The expert added that a roadmap will be drawn up in addition to the report on the results of the trip. “Our task is to find a field of application of the public-private partnership and to find ways to make it even more effective in Tatarstan”.
Ildar Shakirov, the deputy head of the Executive Committee, greeted the experts and drew attention to the busy schedule of their stay in Kazan. “We hope that you will have time to admire our city”, he said. Ildar Shakirov spoke about how demography, sports and transport infrastructure, traffic organization, public spaces have changed in the capital of Tatarstan over the past 10 years. He also reminded how the designing of the Strategy for Social and Economic Development of the City until 2030 was conducted. Speaking about the public-private partnership, the deputy head of the Executive Committee mentioned several examples of implemented projects, such as the Dialysis Clinic, the Kremlin embankment, housing, public, and education projects. “We have ideas on improving the system of collection, transfer, and utilization of waste within the framework of public-private partnership”, said I. Shakirov. “In general, we are ready to consider any project that is of commercial interest and is aimed at the development of the city”, he added. Experts of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe asked the participants of the meeting the questions they were interested in.
Khafiz Salikhov, the deputy chairman of the Bureau of Specialists on Public-Private Partnerships of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, representatives of the Commission Alexander Bazhenov, Claudio Mesa, Bruno de Casale, Elizabeth Jules de Brooks, Renat Galaautdinov, the chairman of the Land and Property Relations Committee, Arthur Valiakhmetov, the chairman of the Committee for Economic Development, Diana Abdulkhakova, the deputy director of the Committee for Tourism Development, also took part in the meeting.
