The program of the Decade of disabled people in Kazan includes cultural events, consultations and other assistance to people with disabilities.

From December 1 to 10, Kazan, like the rest of the world, will host the traditional Decade of disabled people. This year, due to the sanitary and epidemiological situation, cultural and entertainment events will be held online. This was announced today at the Business Monday at the Executive Committee of Kazan by the head of the Department of culture Azat Abzalov.

“The transfer of cultural events into online format is fully reasonable – it is not worth risking today, gathering large audiences“, - said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan.

Different cultural, entertainment and sports events for people of all ages will be staged in the city, Azat Abzalov said. Children and young people will be invited to read books at the book club, participate in online intellectual quiz, and an intellectual tournament “What? Where? When?” – musical evenings, and other events.

The traditional republican creativity festival of people with disabilities “Let's join hands, friends!” will be held in video format.

In November, the Russian festival of children's creative work “The Good Wave” kicks-off. The qualifying rounds will be held in online format.

During the decade of disabled people, social assistance for people in need will also be provided. “Health care institutions organize examination of immobile disabled people at home with laboratory and functional research methods”, - Azat Abzalov said.

For single disabled people who are on home-based social services, there are 994 such people in Kazan, at the request of a social worker, assistance in cleaning apartments will be provided.

Ilsur Metshin emphasized that social assistance is the prerogative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, but the city also tries to help people in need. “In 2018, we received a request to provide property tax benefits to families with disabled children. Kazan City Duma deputies accepted the decision. We have responded to the request of people. Then this initiative was taken up by other cities”, - he said.

Every year, the city budget provides financial assistance to families with disabled children. This year, 270 Kazan families will receive a lump sum allowance for more than 1 million rubles.
