Kazan will host the World Conference of the League of Historical Cities in 2020

This decision was made today at a meeting of the board of directors of an international organization.

(KZN.RU, June 21, Alena Miroshnichenko). From 18 to 20 of June in 2020, Kazan will host the XVII World Conference of the League of Historic Cities (LHC). This decision was made today at a meeting of the board of directors of an international organization that takes place in Kazan.

The LHC conference will take place in Russia for the first time. The theme of the event will be historical and cultural heritage as the basis of national-cultural and local identity.

Evgenia Lodvigova, the first deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, who participated in the meeting, assured that the conference would be held at the highest level. “We are very pleased that the topic proposed by us was accepted by all members of the board of directors. We will do everything we can to ensure that the conference is remembered by all participants of the League of Historical Cities. We want everyone to discover not only Russia, but Kazan, our multi-ethnic and multicultural city”, she said and thanked her colleagues for the productive discussion.

As Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, noted earlier, the World Conference of the League of Historic Cities will be held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the TASSR founding. It is expected that about 200 participants will visit it in 2020. Not only mayors of cities are among them, but also experts in the field of preserving the heritage and folk traditions of the cities-members of the League. The guests of the city will acquaint with the history of the republic, the history of the formation of the Tatar folk culture. The holding of the conference will make it possible to draw the world's attention to Kazan and exchange experience in the field of preserving the heritage of different countries.

“I know that a lot of people of various nationalities and religions live in Kazan. I would like the league participants, first of all, to see the harmony that is preserved in this diversity, and to enjoy the rich history and culture of Kazan”, said Shoichiro Suzuki, the Deputy Mayor of Kyoto.

His compatriot Shigenori Shibata, the secretary general of the LHC, voiced the same opinion. “I hope that many guests from neighboring cities and countries will attend the conference. It will contribute to the development and promotion of the League of Historic Cities around the world”, he added.

Representatives of Kyoto, Bad Ischl, Shiraz, Kenzhda, Xian, and Konya attended today's meeting.

The previous World Conference of the League of Historical Cities was held in September 2018 in the Turkish city of Bursa.
