3.5 million tourists visited Kazan in 2019

The number of people employed in the hospitality industry increased by 22%.

In 2019, 3.5 million tourists visited Kazan, which is 9% more than the year before. At the same time, the number of returning tourists, those who visit the capital of Tatarstan again, has increased by 40%. Daria Sannikova, Director of the Committee for tourism development, reported to the mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

Tourists from China, Kazakhstan, Germany and Turkey most often visit Kazan

According to Daria Sannikova, out of the total number of visitors, 229.3 thousand people are foreign tourists who come mainly from China, Kazakhstan, Germany, Turkey, Ukraine and Belarus. Russian visitors of the capital of Tatarstan mainly come from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Chelyabinsk, Kaliningrad and cities of the Volga Federal district.

The number of people employed in tourism increased by 21.8%

Among the main areas of work, D.Sannikova highlighted the promotion of Kazan, the development of the hospitality, the improvement of tourist infrastructure and the organization of events.

The Director of the Committee for tourism development emphasized that in 2019, the number of people employed in the tourism increased by 21.8%, and staff turnover decreased by 7%. In total, 16.2 thousand people work in the hospitality sector, compared to 13.3 thousand a year before.

New tours of the Kazan agglomeration

The tourist potential of the city is regularly presented at the international exhibitions. Last year, Kazan was promoted in Madrid, Berlin, London and other cities. D.Sannikova noted that in 2019, Kazan welcomed more than 70 official Russian and foreign delegations.

To increase the tourist flow, new projects have been launched, and new tours are being developed in the Kazan agglomeration.

D.Sannikova also recalled the major events that took place in the capital of Tatarstan. So, in 2019, the “Night bike-fest”, the international festival of brass bands “Fanfares of Kazan”, the festival of fashion, design and street performance “Window” were held. The major winter event was the “KushDaKar-fest” festival, it was attended by 200 thousand tourists. The point of attraction for residents and visitors of the city was also the gastronomic festival “Delicious Kazan”. These projects are planned to be held this year.
