Uchitel will make a film based on the novel “My Children” by G. Yakhina

Rock Films studio of a famous Russian film director is shooting of a full-length feature film.

The studio of director Alexei Uchitel “Rock Films” is preparing to shoot a full-length feature film based on the novel by the writer. The contract with the studio was signed last summer, just a couple of months after the book was published. The author of the bestseller told about this to the portal KZN.RU and shared her view of the future movie.

“I immediately agreed to the screen version, because I love Alexey Uchitel for the films “The Edge” and “Dreaming of Space”. In addition, the director works a lot with the German theme, it is represented in his films, and he has German actors. Therefore, I was undoubtedly pleased that he wanted to make a film adaptation”, said G. Yakhina.

She also noted that although the studio itself officially announced preparations for the shooting, the author of the novel does not know what stage the project is at. However, when the work begins, the film crew will meet with the writer and discuss the general vision of the future movie.

“When I was writing a novel, it seemed to me that a cartoon could fit to reflect the semi-fairy, semi-historical world I described. But if a feature film appears, I will be absolutely happy! But this, of course, is a challenge for the director and for the actors, especially for a leading one. He will have to be silent almost all the screen time. The main character of the book is mute for many years”, said G. Yakhina.

The presentation of the novel "My Children" was held in June in the Kazan City Hall. The product appeared on the shelves of bookstores in the second half of May. It tells about the life of the Volga Germans and the fate of the German autonomy on the Volga in 1918-1941. The novel has many references to German folklore, as well as truthful details selected from memoirs and books written by Volga Germans.

Alexey Uchitel is a well-known Russian producer, director, an Honored Worker of Russia, a People's Artist of Russia, as well as the director of the documentary film festival “Message to Man”. His films “His Wife’s Diary”, “The Stroll”, “Dreaming of Space”, “Captive”, “The Edge” received awards at the festivals “Nika”, “Golden Eagle”, the Moscow International Film Festival and Karlovy Vary. One of his last works is “Matilda”, a movie of the last Russian emperor and a ballerina, who established the glory of Russian ballet.
