Tatiana Navka, Alexander Ovechkin and Alexander Legkov are nominated as ambassadors of the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Kazan

Competitions to be held in 2022 at five sports venues of the city.

Preparations for the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2022 are underway in Kazan. Vladimir Leonov, Tatarstan Minister of Sport, said about the preparation for the competition today at a briefing at the Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers.

The Special Olympics World Winter Games will be held in Russia for the first time. “It is a great honor for Tatarstan to host this Olympiad. We have a lot of experience in holding premiere international sports events, but they were summer, and this time – winter sports, besides in a not quite familiar format,”- said Vladimir Leonov.

The competitions, which will be held from January 22 to 28, 2022, will be attended by 2 thousand athletes with intellectual disabilities and unified partners (athletes without intellectual disabilities) from 108 countries.

At the briefing, Vladimir Leonov also named the first ambassadors of the Games. Among them are Olympic champion Alexander Legkov, Olympic champion in ice dancing, two-time world champion, three-time European champion, three-time Russian champion Tatyana Navka, hockey player, three-time world champion Alexander Ovechkin, editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine Ksenia Solovieva and businessman Alexey Nechaev.
