In 2024, as many as 4.5 million tourists visited the capital of Tatarstan

Tourists spent about 31 billion rubles in Kazan

Last year, 4.5 million tourists visited the capital of Tatarstan, which is 12.5% more than in 2022. Of these, 58% were women and the rest were men. The average age of tourists was 40 years. This information was reported by Daria Sannikova, Director of the Kazan Tourism Development Committee, at the Business Monday Meeting.

«We have almost reached our goal of welcoming 5 million visitors. This is the exact target set by the Mayor of our city Ilsur Metshin 10 years ago. At the time, it seemed impossible, but today we are just one step away from reaching this 5-million- milestone», – said Rustem Gafarov, head of the Executive Committee.

The total spending by tourists amounted to 31 billion rubles, which is 29% more compared to 2023. The average income of tourists exceeds 83 thousand rubles. Tourists with the highest salaries come from Moscow and Moscow region, Khanty-Mansi region, and St. Petersburg.

More than a quarter of tourist spending is accounted for meals in bars, and restaurants – almost 80% of tourists visit catering facilities, with an average check of 1,025 rubles. Other categories of spending include grocery stores, various services, entertainment, and accommodation.

The Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve remains a major tourist attraction. Last year, more than 4.5 million visitors visited the museum. Other museums in Tatarstan's capital are also becoming more popular among tourists.

There are currently 233 hotels in Kazan, with 8,212 rooms and 17,217 beds. Their average occupancy rate last year was 62%, with the highest demand during summer and holidays, when hotels were 90% loaded.

There was a slight decrease in average hotel occupancy in Kazan last year due to renovation of some rooms prior the BRICS summit.

Daria Sannikova informed about the measures taken by the committee during the low occupancy season of hotels. «A good example of a positive impact to the city's hospitality industry were the Games of the Future, held in February during a traditionally low season. On February 21–March 3 2024, the city's average occupancy rate was 65%, 30% higher than in the same period in 2023».

Holding international events like the BRICS Summit contributed to the renovation and construction of new hotels in the city. Fourteen presidential suites were additionally equipped, and renovation works were carried out at 20 hotels. The room stock was also updated and the star ratings were increased.
