The start of the festival “Delicious Kazan”: Italian chocolate, chocolate dumplings, and mango shake

The most delicious original dish for a three-millionth tourist will be chosen on Sunday.

(KZN.RU, October 20, Alsu Safina). Today, a two-day festival “Delicious Kazan” started at the Palace of Culturologist in the capital of Tatarstan. More than 50 restaurants, coffee houses, cafes, bakeries, and other catering establishments, as well as farmer’s enterprises are ready to treat the residents and guests of the city with both popular and unusual dishes and natural products of their own production.

Many citizens decided to indulge themselves with tasty and healthy food, who came to the festival with their friends and families. They actively participated in various competitions, and musical bands created a festive mood.

In the afternoon, in the midst of the first festival day, it was overcrowded on the avenue where numerous catering establishments were located. Neither the cool autumn day, nor the promises of short-term rain forecasters spooked Kazan citizens, who decided to spend a day off in the open air. Participants tasted the dishes eagerly and also listened with interest about the features of their preparation. There, they could find Georgian cuisine with khinkali, khachapuri, churchkhela, Italian handmade pasta with seafood, and Tatar delicacies, for example, baursaks, cooked in an oven and brought to Kazan fr om Almetyevsk, and Greek gyros, and Mexican burritos and quesadillas.

There was a fast food as well: burgers, hot dogs, eco-snacks, and hot soups with cheese, fish, mushroom, and dumplings with beef, chicken, salmon, tomatoes and mozzarella, as well as chocolate where cocoa is added to the dough and the filling from cottage cheese and cherries. Certainly, the gastronomic festival did not go without one of the favorite dishes of Oriental cuisines: pilaf, which is prepared in a huge cauldron. In just 2 hours, visitors have eaten 50 kg of pilaf.

Visitors could buy gingerbread, waffles, dates sweets, pancakes with condensed milk, caviar, ham, banana, cherry, and sugar-free marshmallow.

The farmer alley was of particular interest wh ere dairy, meat products, semi-finished products, honey, bakery products made from yeast-free dough were presented. And most of all the guests of the festival were attracted to the stalls with cheese products: Italian cacocavallo, Camembert, blue cheese, burrata, and many other varieties. Thus, one of the productions of cheese Camembert is located in the Kama Ustye.

The geography of the festival's participants is expanding. This is not only Kazan and Tatarstan, but also Samara, Tyumen, told Daria Sannikova, the director of the Committee for Tourism Promotion. According to her, next year it is planned to present more widely international cuisines to Kazan citizens, in particular, Hungarian, Chinese. “The main task of the festival is to popularize the national Tatar cuisine, which is a magnet for city guests and tourists”, noted D. Sannikova. “At the same time, we want to show that Kazan has many faces in terms of cuisine represented in the city”.

“Kazan is a wonderful, beautiful and, of course, delicious city. The first word I learned in the Tatar language is Ochpochmak, this tells something”, said Adam Stifter, the Consul General of Hungary in Kazan.

Galina Sharafutdinova, the executive director of the Association of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of the RT, noted that the festival “Delicious Kazan” is becoming traditional. Thanks to a wide variety of dishes and cuisines, each visitor will be able to choose their own food to their liking.

The festival site will work until 10 pm. Tomorrow, the event will start at noon. The entrance is free. On Sunday, also from 2 pm to 4 pm, visitors will be able to take part in the selection of the most delicious original dish for a three million tourist. 6 chefs will take part in the competition, the jury will evaluate them taking into account the opinion of citizens.

For the first time, the festival “Delicious Kazan” was held in 2016 in the Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda. In 2017, it was held on the territory near the Family Center “Kazan”. This year, the festival was held in May in the Millennium Park. Then, during the two days of the festival, more than 40 thousand people visited the site of the “Delicious Kazan”, 16 tons of food were eaten.
