Heads in the houses of the Aviastroitelny District are attending seminars on separate collection of garbage

Seminars are held on the eve of the launch of the pilot project, which starts on August 1.

(KZN.RU, July 26, Alsu Safina). Seminars on separate collection of garbage are held for the heads of houses in Kazan. They learn how to sort the garbage in the pilot project, which starts on August 1 in the Aviastroitelny district. 428 containers will be installed in 109 container sites with yellow and gray stickers for separate collection of garbage. The first two training events took place the previous evening at school №112 on Lyadov Street, №16, and the lyceum №145 on Dementiev Street, №16.

About 40 people became participants in the first of them. The heads were explained why this project is needed and what are the main principles of garbage sorting. Marat Makhmutov, the deputy head of the Aviastroitelny and Novo-Savinovsky districts’ administration, Almir Kurbanov, the deputy chairman of the Housing Committee, Evgeny Tuz, the director of the MC PZKhK, and Anatoly Vlasov, the acting director of the MC “Aviastroitelny district”, also took part in the seminars.

Before the start of the seminars, the heads received informational brochures explaining that the separate collection of garbage will, first of all, preserve nature and turn garbage into secondary raw materials. There was some interesting data: 2.7 thousand tons of waste paper collected last year allowed 47 thousand trees to be saved from cutting down. Every year, one Kazan family of 4 people throws out almost 2 tons of garbage, most of that waste could be recycled. It is planned that such brochures will also appear on the message boards at the entrances. In addition, the necessary information on the project on separate collection of garbage will appear on the bills of residents of the Aviastroitelny district for July.

Alimir Kurbanov, the deputy chairman of the Housing Committee, told about the project of separate garbage collection at the lyceum №145. He explained why it is important to separate dry recyclable wastes from wet waste. When they get into one container, the quality of dry waste as recyclable materials is lost. Due to preliminary sorting, more garbage can be sent for processing, accordingly, less waste will be delivered to landfills. However, it can be said that the Kazan citizens have already begun to get used to sorting garbage thanks to the mesh containers for collecting PET bottles installed in yards. The city now has about 1600 such containers.

Now, the residents of the Aviastroitelny district have to learn how to sort all the waste in two different containers with yellow and gray stickers. The organizers decided to visualize the proof that it is easy to sort household garbage and it does not take much effort and time to do this. The deputy chairman of the Housing Committee poured out on the table the contents of an ordinary garbage bag. Thus, a glass bottle, a PET bottle, an aluminum can, waste paper were put in one bag that will go to the container with a yellow sticker. At the same time, the moderator of the meeting drew attention to the fact that it is better to compress the PET bottles beforehand to save more space. He recalled that during the Soviet era, glass bottles were regularly handed over, but then they refused this practice when there were no glass factories. Now again glass can become a recyclable material. Next year the processing plant is planned to be launched in Tatarstan.

The other package for containers with gray sticker had food wastes, cake packages, foam containers, a glossy magazine, rags, and shoes.

Deputy Chairman of the Housing Committee stressed that the contents of containers will be removed separately. He urged the heads to be attentive. If they notice that the contents of containers are loaded one after another into one garbage truck, then you can report this to the system “Open Kazan”, the Management Company, the Housing Committee, or the Executive Committee.

Almir Kurbanov drew attention to hazardous waste: batteries, mercury, luminescent energy-saving lamps, and thermometers. For them, eco-boxes will be installed in the city. There will be over 80 of them in the city.

During the training, the heads of houses noted at that it would be most effective to accustom to sorting garbage from the kindergarten or from the school bench. The seminar coach said that great attention will be given to the ecological education of students; a program of ecological education of schoolchildren has been developed. By the beginning of the school year, urns and containers for the collection of plastic and waste paper will be purchased in schools.

The seminar participants also expressed their fears that all residents will continue to add garbage to one bag. Deputy Chairman of the Housing Committee noted that at the first, it is unlikely to be avoided. It will take time for the Kazan people to get used to sorting the waste. But it will be possible to instill a new culture of handling waste. And the heads of houses can be of the great help here as the most active and responsible residents, said A. Kurbanov.
