This proposal to be discussed at a meeting of sports ministers in Brazil
Ilya Volfson, deputy of the Russian State Duma, has proposed to establish and host competitions for disabled athletes from the BRICS countries in Kazan. This was stated in an official letter to the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
«Currently, the Russian Ministry of Sports, in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee and other relevant organizations, is studying the possibility of organizing competitions for para-athletes from BRICS countries for the further discussion at a meeting in Brazil in 2025», – stated in the reply.
Earlier, during the BRICS Games in Kazan, sports ministers agreed to continue working on a draft framework program for sports cooperation and to hold a meeting in Brazil during the country's presidency of the organization in 2025.
Ilya Volfson reminded that Kazan hosted the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the 2015 FINA Championships, and the 2013 Universiade. In January 2023, Kazan also hosted the competitions for the Unified Games of Special Olympics.
