Musclemen, eSports, airplanes, and skis: Kazan will have a new wave of sporting events in August

It is important that more and more citizens take part in them along with professional athletes, believes the Mayor of Kazan.

(KZN.RU, August 6, Ksenia Shvetsova). In August, Kazan hosts five major sporting events, two of which are international. Citizens are invited to celebrate the Day of the Athlete, to look at the demonstration competition of power sports, air races and spar in chess. Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, told about the planned events in the city's sports calendar at the Business Monday.

Last weekend in Kazan, there were competitions in triathlon. Famous athletes from around the world took part in it along with the citizens.

The next sporting event will take place on August 11. On this day, Russia celebrates the Day of the Athlete. In Kazan, it will begin at 10 am in the Millennium Square. A special feature of the holiday will be demonstration performances of public sports organizations and private sports clubs.

Everyone will be able to participate in the chess tournament, the football court game “King of the square”, and other exotic sports, for example, in sporting throwing knife and eSports. Within the framework of the Day of the Athlete, the All-Russian 3x3 basketball tournament “Orange Ball-2018” will take place. Teams from all over the republic will take part in it.

On this day, a parade of dogs will be held.

Dance fans are invited to competitions and master classes in sports and modern dance. A cycling ground will be organized for the youngest guests of the holiday. There, participants between the ages of 5 and 12 will determine the strongest in bicycle racing. Starts will be given on tolocars for babies for the first time.

“We invite all residents and guests to participate in the holiday of sports and healthy lifestyles”, said S. Vostrikova.

From 15 to 17 of August, Kazan will host the team championship of Russia in track and field athletics at the Central Stadium for the first time. For three days, the best all-rounders of the country will fight for victory in the team championship, each team will be represented by six men and six women. Men will compete in the decathlon, women – in the heptathlon. Ten Kazan sportsmen will compete in the national team of the RT.

A special spectacle of August promises to be the World Championship in Aircraft Sports. On August 24-26, Kazan will again accept the Red Bull Air Race. High-quality pilots will show their skills in managing light, super maneuverable aircraft in the water area of the Kazanka River between the Millennium Bridge and the Kremlin dam. “The aircraft accelerates to 370 km per hour, the pilots experience maximum physical load for a person, passing at a low altitude track, marked with 25-meter inflatable pylons. The world champion is the pilot who flew the track in the shortest time and scored the most points in the race”, said S. Vostrikova.

Another competition awaits Kazan citizens on August 26. On this day, the strongest skiers of the republic will determine the winner in the open city championship in ski-rollers on the Kremlin embankment. This event was held for the first time last year, and now it is considered the main start before the upcoming winter season.

Sports calendar of Kazan remains busy, diverse and attracts more and more citizens, said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of the city. “Promoting a healthy lifestyle and a physical education is very important. We looked at statistics by years: 60 years ago, there were only seven masters of sports of the USSR in Kazan, after 20 years, they were 444. Today we have 131 masters of sports of Russia, so we still have something to strive for”, noted I. Metshin. He added that the importance of professional sports, as it is the examples of famous athletes that inspire children and adolescents. "If children will not look up to their favorite players and athletes, they will not develop. Without heroes, there will be no replenishment in our children's sports schools. Therefore, we will continue this work”, said the Mayor.
