Kazan athletes who won the Games of the Future will represent the country at the BRICS Games
The winter sports season has ended in Kazan. Its major event was the international multisport tournament Games of the Future, which was attended by 1,811 athletes from 107 countries. The total number of views is over 2 billion. The phygital games in 21 disciplines were held from February 21 to March 3.
“We have been following the Games in order to use the opportunity to introduce some ideas and directions into further work,”- said Linar Garipov, Chairman of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of Kazan.
The holding of international competitions has once again confirmed the status of Kazan as the sports capital of Russia. “We will remember this winter not only for snowdrifts, but also for the Games of the Future. We confirmed the status of the sports capital by holding a large number of Russian–scale sports events,”- said Rustem Gafarov, head of the Executive Committee.
Another large-scale event of the winter sports season was the fifth stage of the Russian Cup in cross-country skiing, which was held in Kazan for the first time. Two-hundred best ski racers from 40 regions of the country competed at the ski and biathlon complex for three days. Among them are Olympic champions Alexander Bolshunov, Alexey Chervotkin, Veronika Stepanova. “All the athletes noted the high level of organization of the competitions, as well as the ski tracks,”- added Linar Garipov.
Yevgeny Bayborodov, an athlete of the Kazan Olympus triathlon school, won the second place at the Russian Winter Triathlon Championship. The competitions took place on February 2-5 in Kazan, 300 athletes from 18 regions of Russia took part in them. “Kazan athletes won two silver medals in individual races,”- said the chairman of the committee.
The speaker also reminded that during the 2023-2024winter season, 10 athletes were awarded the title of master of sports, 104 people became candidates for master of sports.
During the report, Linar Garipov noted the achievements of Kazan athletes. Among them is Serafim Solodovnikov, who set a European record in 400 meters running indoors. He also broke the Russian record, which was set 46 years ago. Sports gymnast Daniel Marinov became a two–time champion of Russia, Yulia Sokhatskaya became the silver medalist of the national championship in pentathlon, and Sergey Sergeyev became the silver medalist of the Russian Boxing Cup.
“These athletes will represent our country at the upcoming BRICS Sports Games, which will take place in Kazan on 11-24 June 2024. The competitions will take place at the Central Stadium and the Boxing and Table Tennis Center, as well as other sport venues. Today, construction and renovation is underway there,”- Linar Garipov noted.
