There are almost 11 vacancies per applicant in Kazan
In the capital of Tatarstan, the unemployment rate reached a record low in six months, amounting to 0.21% of the workforce. This is almost two times lower than last year. As of the first of July, there are 1,369 unemployed citizens in the city. According to the director of the Kazan Employment Center, Timur Mullin, as of July 1, there were 1,369 unemployed citizens in the city, while there are nearly 11 vacant positions for each applicant.
“Low unemployment is characterized by a consistently high demand for specialists in working professions, which we see in municipal enterprises as well. Obviously, it is difficult for budget institutions to compete with the private sector in terms of working conditions, even the social package offered by municipal enterprises does not help,”- said Rustem Gafarov, head of the Executive Committee.
He added that in order to solve the staff issue, the support of the leadership of the republic and the federal center is needed: “It's not just about subsidies. We need to predict future trends in the labor market, make necessary decisions and work with young people, - he said. - So far, we're forced to operate in a situation of labor shortages," Rustem Gafarov emphasized, stressing that the issue of recruiting new staff should be a priority for heads of municipal companies.
Presently, there are about 15,000 vacancies in Kazan. Manufacturing, construction, retail and transport enterprises are experiencing the greatest shortage of staff. The labor market index in the city (the ratio of applicants to active vacancies) is 3.2 meaning less than four applicants per vacancy. At the same time, the level of competition in trade and delivery services does not exceed two applicants per position, and in the industrial sector – up to three.
The greatest demand for specialists can be found in the industrial, construction, IT, transport, trade, scientific and educational, medical, tourism and hotel industries. The average salary for these positions is 70,000 rubles, which is 19% more than last year.
In the first half of the year, over 3,000 people applied for jobs at the city's employment centers. Of these, 1,420 were hired. The average duration of employment has decreased from four months to three. The highest rates of employment are seen in services, sales, manufacturing, education, science, banking and insurance, transportation, medicine, and hospitality.
The number of working-age residents in Kazan has increased to 757,200, with over 18,000 having disabilities. According to the approved plan, by 2024, it is necessary to provide jobs for more than a thousand people with disabilities. This year, 73%, of the goal was achieved. Overall, 6,260 people with disabilities are employed in the capital of Tatarstan, according to Timur Mullin.
In the six months of this year, 637 municipal enterprises established and fulfilled quotas, providing employment for 3,719 people with disabilities. They work in various specialties, including electrician for repairing and maintenance of equipment, plumber, crane operator and others.
