<p> On December 21, a new zoo “Тhe Zambezi River” will open in Kazan in a test mode. Citizens and guests of the capital of Tatarstan will meet new inhabitants, as well as the animals relocated from the old part of the zoo. </p> <p> At the moment, not all enclosures of the zoo are inhabited, as only a part of the new animal species was delivered to Kazan. Director of the zoo Fanis Nurmukhametov reported that visitors will see 29 species out of 34 planned for settling in this part. Today, the new enclosures welcomed such animals as a hippopotamus, the crocodiles, the hamadryas, ostriches, cattled herons, the leopard tortoises, the Brazza’s monkeys, the meerkats, the damans, the dik-diks, the lions, blue wildebeest, lemurs and others. </p> <p> The zoo will become fully inhabited in 2020-2021. So, in 2020 it is planned to deliver the chimpanzees, a giraffe, the gorillas, an elephant, a rhino and cheetahs to Kazan. </p> <p> The experience of the world-famous zoos was taken into account when selecting the species. The experts say that some animal species that are planned to be imported are not represented in any of the Russian zoos. </p> <p> For information, the territory of the Kazan zoo will increase three times after the renovation – from 7 to 21 hectares. the zoo will be divided into three parts: The Zambezi River, which will settle African animals, the Amazon River - for animals living in South America, and the territory with animals from different parts of Russia. It is planned that all three parts will be connected by the bridges and a tunnel. </p>
