R. Minnikhanov and I. Metshin assessed the restored house №12 on Kalinin Street

The historic building was restored by the activists of the project “Tom Sawyer Fest”.

The wooden house №12 on Kalinin Street, restored by the participants of the festival “Tom Sawyer Fest”, was examined today by Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Asgat Safarov, the head of the Presidential Administration of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Olesya Baltusova, an assistant to the President of the RT, Irek Faizullin, the minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the RT, and others.

The house on Kalinin Street was built at the very beginning of the XX century, it is an example of wooden architecture. Initially, the jeweler's family lived in it. After the revolution, the object was confiscated, former residents emigrated, the house began to be used as communal housing. Later it was redone to accommodate four families. In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Culture of the RT, the building is a historically valuable city-forming object and is subject to protection.

In 2019, volunteers of the “Tom Sawyer Fest” made a reconstruction, as a result of which new gutters appeared at the house, lost decorative elements and framed were restored, crowns were strengthened, and the facade was painted in rich red.

Rustam Minnikhanov appreciated the work and marked the importance of preserving objects symbolizing the historical appearance of Kazan.

Olesya Baltusova told the President of the RT about the future of the “Tom Sawyer Fest”. In the coming months, the restoration work will be completed in the objects of cultural heritage: the House of Berkutov and the House of Bogorodsky. Residents, as well as volunteers from France, help in their restoration. In just 4 years of the festival in Kazan, 15 residential buildings will be updated.

Then, Rustam Minnikhanov was presented with a project of a residential building, the construction of which is planned on the territory of the historical center on Kalinin Street. The developer plans to build an apartment building, and to equip the square next to it at his own expense. Rustam Minnikhanov agreed with the proposal but reminded that it is necessary to observe a reduced number of storeys. The President of the RT also marked that the new building should not violate the existing type of historical territory.

Architects included all the comments of the President of the RT in the project, voiced at the last commission on urban development in historical settlements, reports the press service of the President of the RT.
