The Central Stadium of Kazan to host major competitions after the reconstruction

<p> Major sporting events are planned to be held at the Central Stadium of Kazan, which is being reconstructed for the BRICS Games. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Tatarstan Ministry of Sports. </p> <p> “Ak Bars Arena is not enough for a city like Kazan. While Ak Bars Arena is a football stadium, the Central Stadium is the flagship of athletics. It hosted many competitions, there is a request to hold the Russian Athletics Championships there next year. We plan to host other tournaments, including international ones,”- Tatarstan Sports Minister Vladimir Leonov announced. </p> <p> He also added that the athletics center is located at the stadium. “Today athletics is beginning to return to the international arena,”- Vladimir Leonov said. </p> <p> The plans to renovate the Central Stadium of Kazan were announced last week by the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin. Next year, athletics competitions in 16 disciplines will be held at the sports venue during the BRICS Games. Previously, stadium was reconstructed 19 years ago. </p>
