The first “smart pedestrian crossing” was installed, on Bolshaya Krasnaya Street in Kazan

This innovative technology reduces the risk of traffic accidents by up to 80%, and increases the throughput up to 20%

In Kazan, the first “smart pedestrian crossing” was installed on Bolshaya Krasnaya Street

The Smart Pedestrian crossing consists of video detectors, additional lighting spotlights, a projection onto the crossing, and an information board. It aims at warning drivers in advance of approaching pedestrians, giving them time to safely slow down and come to a complete stop. If there is interference on the road, signals are displayed on the information board.

Kazan has become one of 60 Russian cities that have installed smart pedestrian crossings under the “Infrastructure for Life” national project. Based on the results of a trial period, a decision will be made about installing such complexes at other city roads.

Additionally, it is planned to introduce a feature that will recognize and record cases of traffic rules violation. The information will be automatically sent to traffic police for further review and fines.

The pilot project was implemented by SmartC in collaboration with the Transport Committee of the city, Kazan Internal Affairs Department, and the Urban Transformation Center.
