The research data were announced by the international organization Metropolis.
Kazan Parks and squares created and landscaped under the program for the development of public spaces were highly appreciated by experts of the international organization Metropolis.
A project dedicated to public spaces has been launched on the official website of Metropolis, which announces the best practices of cities around the world in the sphere of improving the urban environment. The authors of the project cited the capital of Tatarstan as a successful example in the development of public spaces in the city.
Experts noted that Kazan residents are actively involved in the design of new parks, which makes the spaces as comfortable and attractive as possible. The involvement of residents in the management of parks and squares, as the researchers note, is the reason for their popularity among citizens. The “Parks and Squares of Kazan” project was highly appreciated by the jury of the international award “UCLG – Mexico City – Culture 21”, the Department of International and Inter-municipal Relations of the Executive Committee of the city reports.
The Kazan project is on a par with examples of successfully implemented landscaping projects in cities such as Medellin (Colombia), Montreal (Canada), Brussels (Belgium), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Amman (Jordan).
Metropolis is the world association of the major metropolises, which is a global network that gathers the governments of 141 urban agglomerations worldwide. Metropolis serves as the metropolitan branch of the United Cities and Local Governments Organization (UCLG). Kazan has been a member of Metropolis since 2005.
