About 400 athletes will take part at the Russian Sumo Championships in Kazan

The competition will take place on March 28 - April 1 at the Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace

The capital of Tatarstan will host the Russian Sumo Championship among boys and girls in three age categories. About 400 athletes from more than 25 regions of the country will take part in the competition at the Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace. This venue previously hosted many international tournaments, including the European Sumo Championships.

The opening ceremony of the competition is scheduled for March 29. On the same day, athletes under the age of 15 will compete. On March 30, the competitions for athletes under the age of 17 will take place, and on March 31, the winners of the championship among sumo wrestlers under the age of 19 will be determined.

In all age categories, the fight for gold medals will be conducted up to two victories of one of the finalists. This competition format was successfully tested at the Russian Championship in Orel. The advantages of the new standard were appreciated by the audience, athletes and coaches of the national sumo team, the Tatarstan Ministry of Sports reports.
