A memorial composition dedicated to Fedor Chaliapin and Maksim Gorkiy was unveiled on the facade of the museum in Kazan. The exposition of the museum tells about the life and work of the opera singer and the writer, the Press Office of the Rais of Tatarstan reports.
The bust of the young Maksim Gorkiy, made by the sculptor Ivan Novoselov, was installed on the facade of the museum in 1967. This year, a bust of Fedor Chaliapin was installed next to it, as well as a forged panel with views of Kazan on the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries by sculptor Zulfiya Mukhamedyanova.
The Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the unveiling ceremony. He noted that Gorkiy and Chaliapin called each other brothers and were united by their love of art, Motherland and people.
“For them Kazan was the city where they grew spiritually and rose. Today these two talented men are brought together on the background of the city that loves them” - the head of the region said.
For reference, in current year Russia celebrates the 155th anniversary of the writer Maksim Gorkiy. The events are held in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan. The Gorkiy+ Arts Festival took place in the capital of the republic of Tatarstan. Concerts and performances were held for the citizens.
In addition, this year marks the 150th anniversary of the opera singer Fedor Chaliapin. A series of events took place in the city, including the opening of a memorial plaque on the facade at 10 Pushkina Street, where Chaliapin was born. The 41st International Opera Festival was also dedicated to the anniversary in January. In addition, the children's music and choral school, located on Kachalova Street, was named after Fedor Chaliapin.
