The events are held in honor of the 30th anniversary of twin-city relations.
(KZN.RU, October 30). The bronze slab with the emblem of Kazan appeared on the main street of Brunswick (Germany) in front of the City Hall. The grand opening was held yesterday with the participation of Ulrich Markurth, the Mayor of Braunschweig, and Evgenia Lodvigova, the Vice-Mayor of Kazan. The event was held in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the twin-city agreement between Kazan and Braunschweig, which runs fr om October 28 to November 1 in the German city.
The plate with the emblem of Kazan became the ninth in a row with other plates dedicated to the twin-cities of Braunschweig. After the opening ceremony, a friendly meeting took place at the Old City Hall in the same hall where a friendship agreement was signed 30 years ago. The gala evening was attended by Reva Idiatullin, the former chairman of Kazan Executive Committee, and Luiza Kosmylina, the deputy director of the NCC “Kazan”, who signed a historical document then.
The head of Braunschweig expressed confidence in the inviolability of friendship between cities and appreciated the efforts made by Kazan colleagues to maintain relations for 30 years. Evgenia Lodvigov conveyed best wishes to the residents of the friendly city from all Kazan citizens.
The Kazan delegation also included Kamil Iskhakov, an assistant to the President of the RT, Azat Abzalov, the head of the Department of Culture, specialists from the Department of Food and Social Catering of Kazan, and others. During the visit, they will get acquainted with the experience of Braunschweig in the field of education, tourism, and culture.
Tomorrow there will be a holiday in the German city for residents and guests of the “Day of Friendship of Braunschweig – Kazan”. The event organizes a cultural program wh ere all residents and guests of the city will be able to visit an exhibition of photographs, children's drawings from students of Kazan art schools, taste German and Tatar dishes, take part in master classes on making chak-chak, and also watch a concert with Kazan artists and listen to the works of Tatar writers performed by local residents.
The agreement on the establishment of official friendly relations was signed on August 7, 1988, in Kazan. At the same time, the first exchange of schoolchildren took place between Germany and the Soviet Union, which continues to this day. In Braunschweig, an agreement on the establishment of formal friendly relations was signed on October 5, 1988.
For 30 years of cooperation, the cities have implemented about 20 programs with a duration of 1-2 years. All of them were aimed at strengthening and developing partnerships. For 30 years, more than 50 different delegations visited the twin-cities with mutual visits.
