Vaccination against a coronavirus infection to launch in Kazan this week

The medical workers and people at risk will be vaccinated firstly.

The vaccination of residents against coronavirus begins next week. The medical workers and people at risk of infection will be vaccinated firstly, Vladimir Zhavoronkov, Tatarstan Deputy Minister of Health, said today at the Business Monday at the Executive Committee.

Currently, two medicines are used for the COVID-19 vaccination. The first is “Gam-COVID-Vac” produced by the Gamalei Institute of the Russian Ministry of Health. This vaccine was obtained by biotechnological means – the pathogenic virus of a new coronavirus infection is not used, V.Zhavoronkov explained.

Another vaccine, “Epivaccorona”, was developed based on peptide antigens by the Vector center of the Russian Agency for Health and Consumer Rights and used for volunteers as part of a post-registration clinical research of the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine. For information, 650 Tatarstan volunteers will be vaccinated as part of this research.

“The vaccination against coronavirus is not recommended in case of positive results for immunoglobulin M or G for a new coronavirus infection, a positive PCR diagnostic test, as well as a clinically, laboratory– confirmed coronavirus disease or with a history of it”, - V.Zhavoronkov said.

Vaccination is carried out in two stages. As a priority, medical workers and people at risk of infection should be vaccinated the Gam-COVID-Vac.
