The bridge on Nazarbayeva Street will open next week

<p> The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin held a visiting meeting on the bridge over Lake Nizhny Kaban on Nazarbayeva Street, where renovation was completed. Traffic will be opened approximately next week on the new bridge, as soon as the certificate of commissioning of the facility is received. At the moment, a conclusion has already been issued on the compliance of the constructed facility with the requirements of technical regulations and project documentation.<br> </p> <p> “It is a major transportation artery that connects the historical part of the Old Tatar Settlement with the downtown. Of course, drivers and passengers of the public transport felt inconvenience without a bridge crossing over Lake Kaban. The road has good quality – it's a great gift to the city. All the work has been completed, it remains to get the documents, and we will launch the traffic,”- Ilsur Metshin commented. </p> <p> “During the work, the number of lanes was increased from six to eight, the load-bearing capacity from 15 tons to 25 tons per axle, as well as pedestrian paths were expanded and a bike path was made from the side of Lake Nizhny Kaban. A new arrangement of outdoor lighting networks was provided on the bridge, bridge cones, slopes and automatic irrigation systems were equipped. In addition, the workers carried out the installation of fencing,”- Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy head of the Executive Committee of Kazan, told the Mayor. </p> <p> The construction length is 436.5 m. The road mat is 15,587 sq.m., side stones are mounted on 1,786 m. Landscaping was also carried out along the bridge, 60 LED lamps were installed. The estimated speed on the bridge will be 70 km/h. </p> <p> “All the works were carried out according to modern requirements. The renovated bridge will unload several streets: Tankovaya, Tatarstan and Nazarbayeva,”- Igor Kulyazhev added. </p> <p> Initially, the completion of the repair was planned only next year, but thanks to round-the-clock work, the deadlines were moved to October 2023. </p> <p> For reference, in 2019 a survey was conducted at the facility, as a result of which an emergency condition of the bridge was revealed. First, restrictions were imposed on the movement of heavy machinery, then the pedestrian part was dismantled and the power supply networks were rebuilt. But the workers noticed a dangerous deformation of the structure due to subsidence of the soil, so at the end of September 2022, the bridge was completely closed to traffic. </p> <p> For the convenience of residents, the Transport Committee together with the Traffic Police Department opened a sidewalk that connected the bridge on the embankment of Nizhny Kaban and Khadi Taktasha Street. For drivers and passengers, a scheme of detours was agreed, including for public transport. </p> <p> This year, for the first time in Kazan, work was carried out simultaneously on six bridges. Work was underway on the Millennium, in the villages of Kuzemetevo, Borisoglebsky and Kindery, and a new bridge across Monasturskaya Creek will open in the village of Otary. </p> <p> Albert Salikhov, Head of the administration of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts of Kazan, and Stanislav Shevyrev, Director of the Volga-Avtodor LLC contracting organization, participated in the visiting meeting. </p>
