On the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, the memory of those who died during the Great
Patriotic War was honored in Kazan Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin honored the memory of those died in the Great Patriotic War today. They laid flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Colonnade of the Glory Memorial in Victory Park. Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov also attended the ceremony.
Earlier, the Fiery Pictures of War event was held in Victory Park. Leaders of youth movements laid out an image of a T-34 tank with the inscription “Collective farmer of Tatarstan” from 25 thousand candles.
As many as 700 thousand people left the republic for the front, more than half of them did not return home. 353 people became Heroes of the Soviet Union.
During the war, Tatarstan was a major rear center – hundreds of thousands of women, old people and children worked in factories and fields. More than 70 evacuated enterprises were located in the republic, more than 600 types of weapons, ammunition, and equipment were produced for the front. Labor heroism of Tatarstan people is marked by awarding Kazan the honorary title “City of Labor Valor”, the Press Office of the head of the republic reports.
The territory of the Victory Park in Kazan began to be developed back in 1970s. The 50th anniversary of the Great Victory coincided with the completion of the construction of the memorial complex. Victory Park was opened to the public in 2005 An open-air exhibition of military equipment from the Great Patriotic War and modern machines is located here.
For reference, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin arrived on a working trip to the capital of Tatarstan this morning. He plans to visit the Kazan Aircraft Plant, hold a meeting on aircraft construction issues and meet with employees of the enterprise. Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and Anton Siluanov, Minister of Finance of the country will also take part in the meetings.
