Kazan Mayor instructed to provide access for parents to school canteens for food quality monitoring

<p> Major renovation of school canteens had been completed in Kazan. On September, 2, 36 renovated and 2 new school canteens opened its doors to children. </p> <p> Older canteens which needed repairs the most were renewed in the first turn: new equipment was installed where necessary, furniture was purchased, dishes and kitchen equipment was updated. New uniform was purchased for the staff. Dining halls were transformed into cozy spaces where students can enjoy their free time besides just having lunch. With renovation and opening of two new schools number of "school restaurant” format canteens in Kazan reached 65. This is more than 30% of the total number of schools in the city. Extension of dining hall space and installation of compact modern furniture helped to get 1550 new seats into renovated canteens and 950 seats into new school canteens totaling to extra capacity of 2,5 thousand. </p> <p> As of September, 1, total investments in modernization of school catering system amounted to 250 million rubles, including 170 million rubles coming from the funds of the city and 80 million from the Department of Food and Social Catering funds. </p> <p> “In the new beautiful school restaurants children will definitely want to finish their meals”, said the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin. He also reminded that it was important to think over the format for parents visits to the canteens. “We know that according to the existing regulations parents are not always allowed in schools, and even more so - to canteens. At the very least parent committee members or some interested parents should get access upon request, check and taste food”, - added the mayor and instructed the Department of Education to work on this matter. </p>
