<p> </p> <p> The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin visited Victory Park today, where the monument to the Soviet soldier is being installed and the surrounding area is being improved. A 9.5-meter-high bronze sculpture will be placed at the park's central alley near the Monument to the mothers and widows of dead soldiers. </p> <p> The prototype of the monument was the Hero of the Soviet Union Gazi Zagitov. He participated in the assault and the Red Flag raising over the Reichstag. The author of the draft project according to an open creative competition has become Nikita Mazayev. The monument was produced in Smolensk. </p> <p> “The figure is modular, its parts are already produced. The author's finishing will begin soon – it is necessary to close all the injection holes and cover the statue with a special composition. In 3-4 days, the work will be completed”, - Herman Bakulin, author of the project for landscaping the surrounding area, told the Mayor. </p> <p> The contractor of these works is MUE Gorodskoe blagoustroystvo. Among the planned works are construction and installation, restoration of the colonnade, landscaping, installation of outdoor lighting, video surveillance and irrigation systems. Presently, 65% of the work has been completed. </p> <p> The monument to the Soviet soldier is a tribute to the feat of the entire Soviet people, to all who forged the Great Victory. It is very important that the prototype of this monument was the hero Gazi Zagitov, who participated in the assault of the Reichstag and raising the flag over the building. We bow our heads to those who gave us a peaceful sky, the opportunity to live happily, give birth to children, build houses and look forward confidently”, - Ilsur Metshin said. </p> <p> He reminded that the citizens of Kazan made a huge contribution to the Victory, working in the rear. “Our industrial enterprises, home front forged Victory at the machines in factories. And today, on the eve of the Great Victory, we are waiting for a decision on awarding Kazan the title that it certainly deserved – City of labor valor – said the Mayor. </p> <p> Unfortunately, the coronavirus combating measures have changed some plans. We will not stage the Immortal Regiment, we will not be able to gather at the Victory parade, but nothing will prevent us from being proud of this holiday.
