In Brazil, the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities approved the charter and elected leadership
The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was elected Honorary Chairman of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities. This decision was made at the General Assembly of the association in Brazil. The mayor of Marica (Brazil) Washington Quaqua was appointed the new chairman of the association.
A meeting of the General Assembly of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities took place in the city of Marica (Brazil). More than 500 mayors, deputy mayors, and leaders of municipal associations from 24 countries attended the event: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Ethiopia, among others.
“The BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, which was established during Russia's presidency in BRICS, provides us with a real opportunity to share our experience in solving the most important issues,”- said Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin at the opening of the General Assembly.
During the meeting, the Charter of the Association was approved.
Speaking about future plans, the Mayor of Kazan mentioned the upcoming launch of applications for the Association's award.
“It will be some kind of ‘Oscar’ in the area of urban development. It will be a great chance to showcase your achievements and ideas that can form the basis for further development of cities in the BRICS,”- Ilsur Metshin noted.
