M. Gelmutdinova: “The main goal is to improve the living standards of people with visual disabilities”

The Yardam rehabilitation center offers classes in home economics, applied arts, reading and writing, orienteering and psychology.

On October 15, the International White Cane day is marked worldwide. This date is intended to remind society about the challenges of people with disabilities, in particular, the blind and visually impaired. Several projects are being implemented in Kazan for this category of disabled people. Among them are the “Road of life” social action and the “See and hear with your heart” project of the Yardam rehabilitation center for the disabled. Today, these projects were announced at a press conference at the Tatar-inform News Agency.

In Kazan, people with disabilities can receive comprehensive assistance at the Yardem rehabilitation center for the disabled. Malika Gelmutdinova, Director of the center and Deputy of the Kazan City Duma, said that the project “See and hear with the heart” is being implemented for the blind and visually impaired.

The “See and hear with your heart” project started on September 15 and ends tomorrow, October 14. During this time, disabled people from Kazan and other cities of the country, near and far abroad are taught to live independently, find and accept themselves. “The main goal of the project is to improve the living standards of people with visual disabilities through an integrated approach with educational, psychological, medical rehabilitation and socialization,”- said Malika Gelmutdinova. It should be noted that travelling, accommodation and meals costs for people with disabilities, studying here, are covered by the Yardam Foundation.

The comprehensive support for the disabled is provided here, including classes in home economics, applied arts, reading and writing in Braille, orienteering, and psychology.

“These classes were first established at the Suleiman mosque in the early 2000s. For many years, I have developed innovative programs and manuals for rehabilitation of disabled people. Now these courses are recognized at the federal level and have already received twice support from the Presidential grants fund. There is no analogue to this center, it is unique due to the fact that there are no age, nationality and religion restrictions,”- Malika Gelmutdinova noted.
